Continuing to create ways to bring our community together, we recently held a county fair program at Grant Park for children of all ages to showcase their unique “pets” and friendly creatures.
Mimicking the traditional livestock shows held at county fairs, attendees were encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal and participate in judged challenges including a dance party, an obstacle course, and a showcase of their animal’s unique sound. Those in attendance witnessed the gathering of lions, tigers, and bears – and even an oversized flamingo!
After the judged portion of the event, the crowd was invited to take part in several classic carnival games to earn tickets to trade in for a prize. Afterwards, while enjoying popcorn and other carnival treats, the children received a Best of Show Blue Ribbon!
Taking a spin on a classic summer event, we showcased the general love for the tradition of county fairs, as well as the unique programs offered in your community’s BIG backyard!
In 2026, the United States of America is commemorating its 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As part of the celebration, America 250-Ohio is coordinating the unique events and experiences across Ohio’s 88 counties that play a role in crafting the state’s impact on American History. The Centerville-Washington Park District is joining the celebration by highlighting significant historical and community-building events within your park district that align with America 250-Ohio’s mission.
August’s America 250-Ohio theme is Ohio Goes to the Fair: The Ohio State Fair, County Fairs & Festivals. Over 200 communities throughout the state planned to come together to celebrate the state’s history and contributions to America’s history with food, fun, and friendship.
