Rosewood Park Pond Restoration Complete; New Playground Coming This Summer

Thanks to multiple grant funding sources, the Centerville-Washington Park District has completed a major restoration of the one-acre pond at Rosewood Park and will soon add a new playground for families to enjoy.

The pond restoration project began in September of 2025. The restoration removed years of accumulated silt and debris, created deeper areas to improve fish habitat, and implemented sustainable practices designed to capture sediment before it reaches the pond in the future. The improvements are expected to enhance water quality while supporting a healthier aquatic ecosystem.

Funding for the project was made possible through a $230,000 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission through the Clean Ohio Conservation Program, which covered 75 percent of the restoration cost.

Before construction began, park district staff partnered with The Lake Doctors to relocate larger fish from the Rosewood Park pond to the pond at Oak Grove Park to ensure their survival during the restoration work.

With the project now complete, the pond has been restocked with minnows, sunfish and bass through a $7,500 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Both Rosewood Park and Oak Grove Park ponds are catch-and-release fishing locations.

“Projects like this allow us to take care of the natural resources in our parks while also creating great places for families to spend time together,” said Kristen Marks, Executive Director. “From restoring the health of the pond to adding a new playground, these improvements will help ensure Rosewood Park continues to be a place where people can fish, play and connect with nature.”

Additional improvements are also on the way to Rosewood Park. Thanks to a $42,000 State Initiative Grant from DWA Recreation and GameTime, a brand-new playground will be installed at the park later this summer, expanding opportunities for children and families to play.

Rosewood Park is a 13-acre neighborhood park located at 475 Roselake Drive in Centerville. The park has been a community favorite for more than 50 years.
