All ages
Discover the world of nocturnal flying squirrels and owls. Observe their habitats and learn fun facts while taking a pause mid-hike to try and call in owls in the meadow. This is a Tools to Trek program.

The CWPD 500
Ages 5 – 9 with adult companion
Join us for a “CWPD 500” race around the park! Create your own cardboard race car! We will provide kits for you to pick up and decorate your cars beforehand! Additional decorations will be provided on the day of the event. Race along the route while completing various pit stops to cross the finish line! Please register each child you would like to have create a cardboard race car.

Watercolor Mushroom Class
Ages 18 and up
We are going to have fun with fungi! In this class, we will create mushroom-themed watercolor paintings utilizing basic brush and watercolor techniques. You will leave the class with a completed mushroom painting! All skill levels are welcome! This class is best for beginner to intermediate level participants. All equipment will be provided.

Crafts with Nature – Pine Tree Painting!
Ages 18 months – 4 years with adult companion
We will complete crafts with nature/sensory themes, read stories, play games and take short hikes in the park — all to spark a love of nature in our youngest community members! The theme for November is ‘Pine Tree Painting!’ This program is limited to one adult companion per registrant. Backpacks and front carriers are appropriate if your child is not walking. Strollers are not recommended at parks with natural terrain.

Preschool Nature Series: Owl Sounds!
Ages 3 – 5 with adult companion
Come along on our night hike as we listen for owls! Did you know different owls have different sounds? We will learn their sounds before heading out on our hike to listen for whooo’s out in the park at night! This is a Tools to Trek program.

Ladies’ Friendsgiving
Ages 18 and up
Celebrate Friendsgiving with a ladies’ night out cooking class taught by Katie Blauser from Eat Pretty Darling! You’ll shake up a delicious mocktail and whip up a selection of tasty appetizers! From fruity drinks to savory bites, you’ll learn easy recipes perfect for any gathering. Gather your friends for an evening of creativity, laughter and delightful flavors! Please note: all major food allergens could be present in this class.

DIY Gifts: Felted Coasters and Trivets
Ages 14 and up
Get a head start on holiday gifting or hosting with this colorful craft. We will use wool-felted balls to create a set of bright coasters and a matching trivet. All supplies and materials needed for this class will be provided. No experience of any kind is necessary to participate in this easy workshop.

Rustic Thanksgiving Centerpiece
Ages 16 and up
Kick off Thanksgiving week by creating a beautiful nature-themed centerpiece in a wooden bowl for your Thanksgiving table. Use fall-themed decor, mini pumpkins and/or succulents to make your bowl unique!

The Great Turkey Trek
All ages
Follow the clues along the routes and help us find the turkeys during an interactive walk or hike! Your quest will have two options: a one-mile paved/limestone path walk or a 3.1-mile (5k) adventure hike. Either trek you complete, there will be a fun Thanksgiving-themed prize! Our sponsor for this event is Dayton Children’s Hospital. Travelin’ Toms Coffee Truck will be in attendance with items available for purchase. T-shirt requests are due by the end of the day on Thursday, October 30, or until all t-shirts are claimed. Any extra t-shirts will be given out at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Last group will go on the 5k trail at 2:15 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to bring new, unopened, colorful socks for Shoes 4 the Shoeless.

Conservation Crew: Tree Planting
Ages 12 – 18

The operations department needs our help with their November tree planting. Many trees are planted throughout the Park District to add to our tee canopy each year. Participants will plant trees and log them into our tree map.
