The Great Turkey Trek

We need your help for this Thanksgiving adventure. Follow the clues along the routes and help us find the turkeys during an interactive walk or hike! There are two options for your quest, a one-mile paved/limestone path walk or a 3.1-mile (5k) adventure hike. Either trek you complete, there will be a fun Thanksgiving-themed prize! Our sponsor for this event is Dayton Children’s Hospital. Travelin’ Toms Coffee Truck will be in attendance with items available for purchase.
Winter Wreaths
Ages 18 and up
Start gearing up for the holiday season and join us for a warm and cozy crafternoon. This program will provide all the tools and supplies needed to create a fuzzy holiday wreath. No prior experience is needed to create this cheerful decoration.

Do You Want To Paint a Squirrel?
All ages
Pick up plywood squirrel: Friday, November 29 – Monday, December 9
Return finished squirrel: Friday, December 13 – Friday, December 27
Spot, the Park District Snowman, is visiting his red squirrel friends at Grant Park. They are super excited to show him their winter cache! They collected more than food to get them through the winter! Knowing how much Spot loves CWPD, they each collected some items that reminded them of a park experience or activity they enjoyed this year. What do you think the squirrels collected?
Households can register to paint a plywood squirrel using the above prompt. After painting, turn your squirrel in to enter it in the Spot the Snowman Scavenger Hunt contest for a chance to win a prize!
Squirrels will be turned in and featured in a scavenger hunt. Scavenger hunt participants will cast votes for their favorite squirrel. Winners of the painting contest will be announced on February 27.

Yoga in the Park A

Method Studio’s Megan Lees leads these yoga classes for all levels. Classes include warm-up, breath work, standing poses, flowing poses and end with relaxation.

A Walk in the Park

These are self-guided walks around your community parks! Walking helps maintain a healthy weight, increases energy, lifts your spirits, strengthens memory and protects from heart disease and high blood pressure. Enjoy reduced stress, improved quality of sleep and the many benefits from an improved quality of life.

Trail Trekking Meet-Up (No Rentals)

Tuesdays & Fridays, December 3 – February 28
(No trekking December 24)
Meet up with other trail trekking enthusiasts to trek through the parks during this self-guided meet-up program! You must bring your own Nordic poles if you sign up for this option. Tuesday Trail Trekking locations will be the same as the A Walk in the Park program.

Meet up with other trail trekking enthusiasts to trek through the parks through this self-guided meet-up program! Sign up to rent Nordic poles if you want to try trekking before you purchase your own set. You will be contacted to sign a borrower’s permit and pick up your set for the fall. A limited number of rental poles are available. Note: Tuesday Trail Trekking locations will be the same as the A Walk in the Park program.

Kid’s Glass Fusing: Penguin Ornaments
Ages 6 – 10 with adult companion
Children will use their creativity to make two penguin ornaments! Instructor Kathy Woodruff will assist the children and parents, guardians or grandparents as they work together on this special project.

Glass Fusing: Winter Ornaments
Ages 16 and up
Exercise your creative side while making new holiday presents or decorations. Instructor Kathy Woodruff will lead the class in creating a variety of fused glass ornaments. This class includes three ornaments with plenty of styles and options to choose from.

Hike For Your Health
Ages 18 and up

Staff and volunteers will lead groups at different paces. Hike for Your Health is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and get to know some of your parks better. All hikes are on natural trails. Please wear appropriate shoes for trails that may be muddy or slick.

Amazing Athletes at the Park A
Ages 3 – 6
Wednesdays, December 4 – January 22

Come join Amazing Athletes as we practice our coordination, fine motor skills and gross motor skills! This program uses the fundamentals of 10 different sports to help build and develop motor skills, nutritional knowledge and body awareness. Sign up for both sessions and receive an Amazing Athletes t-shirt!

Fitness Yoga A
Ages 18 and up
Wednesdays, December 4 – January 22

You will get it all in one fitness class — a challenging workout, yoga practice, as well as mindfulness and functional movement for vitality and longevity. All levels are welcome. Taught by certified yoga instructor Dan Loofboro. Please bring a yoga mat and water.

Creative Crafting
Ages 9 – 13
Try new art skills during this fun crafting program based on nature themes. Each session will have different options for participants to choose from and allow them to work independently or get creative together!

It ‘Felt’ Like the Holidays: Embroidered Decor
Ages 16 and up
Use colorful felt, thread, beads and sequins to create your own handmade holiday decorations. We will be going through the steps needed to sew a felt ornament. Each participant will leave the program with the supplies to finish their set. No experience with embroidery or sewing is needed to participate in this festive program.

Growing Up WILD Workshop and Training
Ages 16 and up
Growing Up WILD is an early childhood curriculum that can be incorporated into classroom settings, informal educational opportunities, and with the children in your family. This 3-hour training session will show educators how to use the guide and showcase resources available to connect children to the outdoors.
Growing Up WILD curriculum guides are provided for free to those completing the course by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife.
