Nature Fun: An Outdoor Family Storytime

Families are invited to join us outside to listen to a story brought to you by the Washington-Centerville Public Library and to participate in nature-themed activities following the story. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on.
Healthy Simplified! Charcuterie Boards
Ages 18 and up
Learn how adding or swapping simple nutritional options can add up to a healthier lifestyle. Join Holistic Health Coach Michelle Daniel of The Lifestyle Technique as you learn the basics of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Gather with others and have fun preparing your own make-and-take meal. This month’s make and take: healthy charcuterie boards!

Preschool Nature Series: Mini Campout
Ages 3 – 5 with adult companion
Let’s camp without spending the night! We will put up a tent, share stories and s’mores by the campfire and go on a short hike!

Teddy Bear Picnic in the Park
All ages
Bring your own dinner and/or enjoy free light refreshments while supplies last! The Teddy Bear Picnic will include themed activities including a scavenger hunt along the newly paved path. Please note: allergens will be present in some of the free refreshments and other participants’ meals.

Flora and Fauna Plaster Casting Workshop
Ages 11 – 15
Fridays, May 12 & 19
Make a unique plaster mask with Kristin Bailey from Purple Paintbrush LLC! Using inspiration from nature, teens will create their own decorative mask using plaster gauze and an assortment of mask molds as a foundation. In the second class, we will sand and prime masks to receive acrylic paint and other fun embellishments. You must be able to attend both sessions.

The market will operate every second Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. beginning May 13 and ending on August 12 at Activity Center Park, 221 N. Main Street. (May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12)
Butterfly Survey
Recommended for ages 8 and up
Help contribute to research by joining the naturalist on butterfly surveys. Identify and count butterflies while observing other seasonal wildlife as we stroll. No experience is necessary. Trail is approximately one mile in length on uneven terrain. This is a Tools to Trek program.

World Migratory Bird Day Activities
All ages
A special day to celebrate migrating birds! We will have signs featuring the local birds you can find in your parks! Complete the loop around the paved path, take our bird quiz and earn a prize! This is a Tools to Trek program.

Painting in the Landscape
Ages 16 and up
Join Kristin Bailey from Purple Paintbrush LLC for a relaxing evening overlooking the meadow. No painting experience is required. This class is a fun and enjoyable way to learn some color theory, basic drawing and observational painting with helpful tips and guidance!

Reading in the Wild
Ages 18 months – 4 years with adult companion
We will interact with stories, complete crafts with sensory themes and take short hikes in the park. One adult companion per registrant. Backpacks and front carriers are appropriate if your child is not walking. Strollers are not recommended at parks with natural terrain. The Reading in the Wild May programs are identical, please only select one.

Campfire Yoga
Ages 18 and up

Enjoy some downtime next to the warm and cozy fire. This outdoor yoga class will include warm-up, breath work, standing poses, flowing poses and end with relaxation around the campfire.

Join us and learn techniques like how to add interest to backgrounds, work with a limited palette to improve mixing skills, and work with limited brushes to improve dexterity. This is an intermediate-level class.

Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up
Join the Park District and Centerville-Washington History to experience a simulation of Centerville’s founders! Your family will learn of Washington Township’s early citizens and learn about the hardships they faced traveling to the area! Pack your wagons, encounter scenarios and challenges, and hunt for food. Trail is approximately one mile in length on a crushed limestone path.

Homesteading Ohio (1:15 p.m.)
Recommended for families with children ages 5 and up
