Walking helps maintain a healthy weight, increases energy, lifts your spirits, strengthens memory and protects from heart disease and high blood pressure. Enjoy reduced stress, improved quality of sleep and the many benefits from an improved quality of life.

Meet up with other trail trekking enthusiasts to trek through the parks during this self-guided meet-up program! You must bring your own Nordic poles if you sign up for this option. Tuesday Trail Trekking locations will be the same as the A Walk in the Park program.

Meet up with other trail trekking enthusiasts to trek through the parks through this self-guided meet-up program! Sign up to rent Nordic poles if you want to try trekking before you purchase your own set. You will be contacted to sign a borrower’s permit and pick up your set for the fall. A limited number of rental poles are available. Note: Tuesday Trail Trekking locations will be the same as the A Walk in the Park program.

Wednesdays, December 4 – February 26
(No hike December 25 or January 1)
Staff and volunteers will lead groups at different paces. Hike for Your Health is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and get to know some of your parks better. All hikes are on natural trails. Please wear appropriate shoes for trails that may be muddy or slick.

Winter Stargazing A
Ages 6 and up
It may be chilly, but we can still enjoy an indoor stargazing experience! Boonshoft Museum of Discovery will have an indoor planetarium to view the night sky in the Nature Nook. There will also be opportunities for various stargazing activities outside, including hot chocolate and a short night hike with a naturalist! Please register each member of the family who will be attending. The dome has limited space.

Forts in the Forest
All ages
Build forts with what nature provides — sticks, leaves, mud or snow! Discover the fun of using nature to make a shelter as a family. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative use of materials, most livable and most woodland fairy-tastic. At the end of the program, we will take a commemorative picture and learn the proper way to give your creation back to nature. One registration per family.

Watercolor Still Life
Ages 18 and up
We will create a watercolor still life painting based on observation. We will start with a quick study, then utilize a variety of techniques to create a finished painting. You will leave the class with one complete painting. Studio materials will be provided to use in class.

Crafts with Nature: Toadstools
Ages 18 months – 4 years with adult companion
We will complete crafts with nature/sensory themes, read stories, play games and take short hikes in the park. The theme for February is ‘Toadstools’. This program is limited to one adult companion per registrant. The Crafts with Nature February programs are identical, please only select one. If the weather is adverse or chilly, we may not go on the hike. Backpacks and front carriers are appropriate if your child is not walking. Strollers are not recommended at parks with natural terrain.

Crafts with Nature: Toadstools
Ages 18 months – 4 years with adult companion

This program is limited to one adult companion per registrant. The Crafts with Nature February programs are identical, please only select one. Fossil Frenzy
Ages 6 – 10
Join us for an evening hike and an opportunity to learn about the fossils around us. Throughout the program, we will also be making fossils to take home and enjoy.

Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshop
Ages 18 and up
Ukrainian Egg Decoration uses waxes and other mediums to decorate real chicken eggs with nature and folk designs. This painting style has been done for hundreds of years in Eastern and Central Europe. Learn this ancient process from local teaching artist of more than 20 years, Ginny Baughman. Join us for this unique class and take home your own beautifully decorated egg!

Yoga in the Park A
Ages 18 and up
Mondays, March 3 – April 7
Method Studio’s Megan Lees leads these yoga classes for all levels. Classes include warm-up, breath work, standing poses, flowing poses and end with relaxation.
