Watercolor Mushroom Class

We are going to have fun with fungi! We will create mushroom-themed watercolor paintings utilizing basic brush and watercolor techniques.

Ages 4 – 8
Dig into a yummy dessert with instructor Katie Blauser from Eat Pretty Darling! Participants will make dirt pudding cups with avocado pudding and granola dirt.

Nature Fun: An Outdoor Family Storytime
All ages
Families are invited to join us outside to listen to a story brought to you by the Washington-Centerville Public Library! Participate in nature-themed activities following the story. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on.
Registration is not required but is recommended.

Preschool Nature Series: Wild Turkeys
Ages 3 – 5 with adult companion
Wild Turkeys are very interesting birds! We will search for their eggs, learn how they fit into the ecology of local habitats, and take an up-close look at their feathers.

Kid’s Glass Fusing: Penguin Ornaments
Ages 6 – 10 with adult companion
Children will use their creativity to make two penguin ornaments! Kathy Woodruff will assist the children and parents, guardians or grandparents as they work together on this unique project.

Glass Fusing: Winter Ornaments
Ages 16 and up
Exercise your creative side while making new holiday presents or decorations. Instructor Kathy Woodruff will lead the class in creating a variety of fused glass ornaments. Choose from plenty of different styles to create three ornaments!

The Great Turkey Trek
All ages
We need your help for this Thanksgiving adventure. Follow the clues along the routes and help us find the turkeys during an interactive walk or hike! There are two options for your quest, a one-mile paved/limestone walk or a 3.1-mile (5k) adventure hike. For either trek you complete, there will be a fun Thanksgiving-themed prize! Dayton Children’s Hospital is generously providing t-shirts for participants. T-shirts are only guaranteed for pre-registrations received by October 31.
Attendees are encouraged to bring new, unopened, colorful socks for Shoes for the Shoeless. Athletic socks that fit children ages 5 and up are preferred.
Thanksgiving Floral Arrangement
Ages 16 and up (children 8 – 15 can be registered as participants alongside a paying adult)
Oberer’s Flowers is coming to you with a fun and relaxing way to start the weekend. Learn, step-by-step, how to create a flower arrangement for your Thanksgiving table! All supplies are included.

Thankful for Parks Party
Ages 6 – 11
Spend the afternoon among the beautiful autumn trees celebrating everything that makes fall special! We will play fan-favorite games from summer, create seasonal-themed crafts and take a nature hike to enjoy the fresh air if the weather permits!

Do You Want To Paint a Butterfly?
All ages
Pick up plywood butterfly: Friday, December 1– Monday, December 11
Return finished butterfly: Friday, December 15 – Friday, December 22
Spot wants to be able to go on six butterfly surveys in the parks. Design a butterfly that Spot would like to find! You can make a real butterfly or make up your own new species! Butterflies will be turned in and featured in a Scavenger Hunt. Scavenger Hunt participants will cast votes for their favorite butterfly. Winners of the painting contest will be announced on February 27.

Sledding Days with Owlexander!
All ages
Come out and join us for sledding! Sign up for this program, and when we have snowfall, we will send out an email for which day(s) we will sled at Activity Center Park this winter. Owlexander will stop by for the fun! The exact dates for sledding are weather-dependent, and meet-up days will be emailed out when the required weather conditions are available.
Ages 18 and up
Tuesdays and Fridays, December 1 – February 27
Meet up with other trail trekking enthusiasts to trek through the parks through this self-guided meet-up program! Sign up to rent Nordic poles if you want to try trekking before you purchase your own set. You will be contacted to sign a borrower’s permit and pick up your set for the winter. A limited number of rental poles are available.
There is no registration deadline for this program. Join anytime! Note: Tuesday Trail Trekking locations will be the same as our A Walk in the Park program.
