Creek Week: Oh Snap…ping Turtles!

Snapping turtles are fascinating creatures! Other turtle species will be discussed during this turtle-tastic creeking session! You will become creek experts by the end of this week! Individuals attending three or more programs will receive a special Creek Week patch. Please dress to be in the creek. Close-toed shoes are required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Kingfishers seem to be everywhere at Holes Creek. We will learn about what makes this bird unique and search for their favorite foods in the creek. Intergenerational Series: Bubbles & Bubble Art
Ages 4 – 7 with grandparent(s)
Let’s explore bubbles together with a bubble party! We will make a unique craft using bubbles, enjoy bubble playtime and finish the session with a fun hike! The Intergenerational Series is only for grandparents and their grandchildren. Parents and other caregivers may attend any of our other programs.

Nature Journaling Watercolor
Ages 18 and up
Take a walk in the woods and capture your journey on paper. Learn how to utilize basic layout, watercolor and lettering techniques to document your experience. Materials kit includes travel watercolor paint pan set, Aqua paintbrush, waterproof fine tip pen, pencil with eraser, bull clip, blank kraft travel notebook and 9×12 drawing board.

National Vanilla Ice Cream Day Hike
All ages
Did you know July 23 is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day? Join us for a nature hike, and we will end with the iconic sweet treat to commemorate! Staff and volunteers will guide you through the park. Please dress for natural trails and bring water. Strollers are not recommended.

Summer Archery B
Ages 8 – 14
We will learn the basics of NASP competition-style archery and put the skills learned to practice. Participants will compete against each other in a friendly competition of shooting arrows at the same target, mimicking the classic outdoor game, Tag. All equipment is provided.

Strollers in Motion

Strollers in Motion is a stroller-based workout for moms, dads or other caregivers. Each total body workout incorporates power walking and strolling, strength training, balance work and toning. Strollers in Motion is an awesome way to get fit, meet new people and have fun with your little ones!
Nature Fun: An Outdoor Family Storytime
All ages

Families are invited to join us outside to listen to a story brought to you by the Washington-Centerville Public Library! Participate in nature-themed activities following the story. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on.
Registration is not required, but is recommended.
Neighborhood Park Party
All ages
Meet your neighbors and kick off the week with a fun evening in the park! CWPD will bring big games, activities and refreshments for everyone to enjoy.
Registration is not required, but registered participants will receive reminder and/or cancellation emails.
The Wall That Heals Exhibit
A three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and a mobile education center. The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. This exhibit is brought to you in partnership with the Washington-Centerville Public Library. Visitors are welcome all day.
Glass Fusing: Summer Birch Trees
Ages 16 and up
You will create a beautiful summer birch tree scene on a 10.75″ square of glass. A metal hanger will be added if you would like for it to be a window decoration! All materials, except a stand for your project, are included.

Sunset on the Meadow
Ages 18 and up
Sunset is a special time to visit the meadow at Grant Park. As the sun sets, crepuscular animals like deer and cottontail rabbits are out and about looking for food. Join us on this twilight hike to look for wildlife. We will stop at observation areas to enjoy the vistas created by the setting sun.
