Young Birders Club Southwest Chapter Meeting
Ages 10 – 18
Kettering PRCA and Centerville-Washington Park District are collaborating to bring the joy of birdwatching to our youth. Light snacks are provided. Participants must become members of the Ohio Young Birders Club. Fall programs will be held in the Centerville-Washington Park District.
The Summer Session of the Southwest Chapter is hosted by the Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. You must register through them to attend. Program Code: 03-30240-B (registration through Kettering)
Creek Chic

What are those creatures wearing? We will learn about the physical adaptations of critters that live in and around our local creeks while we search for them! This is a Tools to Trek program.

Empowering Outdoors: Coffee and Conversation July
Ages 18+

Join the Centerville-Washington Park District and the local non-profit Hope Wanders to enjoy coffee and conversation with guest speakers and/or an educational experience followed by a walk or hike. This session will include an introduction to archery skills. Participants will learn about safety, supplies and get to use the bows and arrows to practice how to use them. Archery will be taught by a CWPD trained archery instructor. In addition, there will be a 1.5 mile paved walk.
Continuous Line Drawing & Watercolor Washes Class
Ages 18 and up
We will work with a wildflower theme to explore combining continuous line drawings with watercolor washes to create a unique aesthetic. This technique will increase observation skills and brush dexterity. We will be using studio materials. Leave the class with your finished painting.

Bike Centerville Community Ride C
Ages 18 and up
Take advantage of this opportunity to explore Centerville and Washington Township by bicycle. The ride will be led by trained and experienced bike leaders and will help you learn routes to shopping, parks and more! Rides will be an easy-paced 10 to 15 miles that start and end at a park.

This week will be all things soft and fuzzy! Campers will spend the week learning about the little critters that live in our parks, from fuzzy rabbits to little grasshoppers. Fun games, creative crafts and exciting challenges await campers as they look for little critters in the park. Campers are welcome to bring their stuffed animal friends to camp this week.

It will be a competition all week long! We will participate in nature trivia, animal identification games and much more! Teams will tie-dye team bandanas that they are invited to wear on the last day for the ultimate challenge! This week we will be taking a field trip to Oak Grove Park to learn about fishing and archery. Parents should drop campers off and pick at Oak Grove Park on Wednesday. The cost of the field trip is included in this week’s fee. Thursday is the rain date for the field trip!

A week focused on building our outdoor skills! Learn how to cook over a campfire, make a walking stick, read a map and compass, tie some knots and so much more! We will finish our week with a field trip to Grant Park for hiking and creeking! This is a field trip week. Parents/guardians will be dropping campers off and picking up from our field trip location at Grant Park. We will be using our inflatable S.A.F.E. Archery equipment for this week of camp.

Families are invited to join us outside to listen to a story brought to you by the Washington-Centerville Public Library! Participate in nature-themed activities following the story. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on. All sessions are Tools to Trek programs.

Magician Mysteries and Circus Celebrations!

Our youngest magicians are taking the center ring! We will be looking at some great “magic tricks” in nature (and learning a few simple magic tricks we can show off ourselves). We will have fun with some optical illusions and crafts with epic transformations! Guest artist Kristin Bailey of the Purple Paintbrush, LLC. will join us this week too! Please dress in old clothing, and we will provide aprons for especially messy crafts.
